William Smith hosts St. Lawrence, Clarkson this weekend

The William Smith lacrosse team hosts two Liberty League contests in Geneva, New York, this weekend, April 4-5. The Herons will take on St. Lawrence on Friday at 4 p.m. before facing Clarkson on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
 
William Smith, which enters the weekend 10th in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Poll and 12th in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll, is 6-3 overall this season. The Herons are 3-0 in league play and sit alone in first place in the Liberty League standings.  William Smith is coming off a 15-9 win over Skidmore last Saturday.
 
St. Lawrence is 4-4 overall this season with a 2-1 record in Liberty League play. The Saints are coming off a 21-1 win over Bard last Saturday.
 
Clarkson is 6-3 overall with a 1-2 record in conference play. The Golden Knights will be at Ithaca on Friday.
 
On Saturday, concessions vendor Dana's Time Out is also giving away free food. Fans with a valid HWS OneCard will receive one free item.

ABOUT THE HERONS
  • William Smith is led offensively by senior Katherine Murray's 26 goals, 11 assists and 37 points.
  • Sophomore Kira Fulton, who was named to the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll, has 27 points on 17 goals and 10 assists.
  • Junior Natalie Daniels adds 17 goals and leads the team with 63 draw controls.
  • Senior Nikki Pio has a team-high 13 caused turnovers and 12 ground balls.
  • Senior Maura Smeader has played every minute in goal. She is 6-3 with a .524 save percentage and a 7.67 GAA.

  • The Herons are seventh in the nation in clearing percentage (.902), eighth in draw control percentage (.645) and ninth in turnovers per game (12.67).
  • Individually, Smeader is 23rd in the nation in GAA and 26th in save percentage.

ABOUT THE SAINTS
  • St. Lawrence is led by Jessica LaPlaca's 17 goals, six assists and 23 points.
  • Neve Ley is right behind her with 15 points on 12 goals and three assists. She has a team-high 20 draw controls.
  • Brigette Gable leads St. Lawrence's defense with 15 caused turnovers and 21 ground balls.
  • Zoe Froimovitz has played the majority of the minutes in goal. She is 3-4 with a 9.38 GAA and a .484 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday's game will be the 54th overall meeting between William Smith and St. Lawrence.
  • The Herons lead the series 38-15, including a 21-7 record in Geneva.
  • William Smith swept last year's meetings, defeating St. Lawrence 12-8 in Canton, New York and then knocking off the Saints, 19-6 in Geneva in the first round of the Liberty League tournament.
 
ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
  • Entering the weekend, Madelynn Barnum leads Clarkson with 45 points on 37 goals and eight assists. Gabby Cranfield is right behind her with 40 points on 15 goals and a team-high 25 assists.
  • Barnum also has a team-high 76 draw controls. Syndey Nakas has 20 ground balls and Rylee Ganter has 12 caused turnovers.
  • Jennaca McGill and Riley Donovan have split time in goal. McGill is 6-0 with a 9.94 GAA and a .333 save percentage. Donovan is 0-3 with a 7.56 GAA and a .537 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday's game will be the 25th meeting between William Smith and Clarkson.
  • The Herons lead the all-time series 22-2, including an 11-1 mark in Geneva.
