For the first time in his career, Hobart sophomore Daniel Sappia was named the United Volleyball Conference's Co-Player of the Week. This week he shared the honors with Vassar's Armaan Desai.

The 16th-ranked Statesmen are 20-8 this season, including a 3-4 mark in UVC play after sweeping Elmira on Saturday. With the win over the Soaring Eagles, Hobart secured a playoff berth for the second straight season, clinching the sixth seed in the UVC playoffs.

Sappia put on an impressive performance in the crucial conference matchup on Saturday. He led the Statesmen with a season and match-high 16 kills, hitting .424. Sappia added five digs, two service aces and an assist in the win.

The six-rotation outside hitter from Wellington, Florida, has been a key contributor for the Statesmen this season, ranking among the program's best in several statistical categories. Sappia ranks second on the team in kills per set (2.42) and points per set (2.80), third in digs per set (1.57) and fourth in service aces per set (0.27). He has recorded double-digit kills in 10 matches this season, including four of the last five games, and added 23 service aces for Hobart.

The Statesmen will be back in action Friday, April 11, when they travel to New York City for the UVC playoffs. Sixth-seeded Hobart will take on third-seeded Vassar at 7:30 p.m. in the John A. Paulson Center. The winner will advance to take on second-seeded Nazareth the following day.
