The 11th-ranked William Smith lacrosse team will be back in action Friday, May 2, when it welcomes Union to Boswell Field for a Liberty League Tournament semifinal contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
 
The Herons are 12-3 overall on the season. William Smith went 9-0 in the Liberty League and captured its 10th Liberty League regular season title. As the No. 1 seed, the Herons earned a first-round bye. William Smith closed out the regular season with a 21-8 win over Vassar on April 26.
 
The Garnet Chargers are also 12-3 overall. Union went 7-3 in conference play, finishing in a three-way tie for second in the league standings. After tiebreakers, the Garnet Chargers were awarded the fourth seed. On Wednesday, Union defeated RPI 14-7 to advance to the semifinals.
 
Second-seeded Ithaca will host third-seeded Rochester Institute of Technology in the other semifinal. The winners will meet on Sunday for the conference championship. The game will be played at the highest remaining seed.

ABOUT THE HERONS

• William Smith is led offensively by senior attacker Katherine Murray. She has 62 points on 45 goals and 17 assists.
• Sophomore attackers Mia Falco (26-18-44) and Kira Fulton (25-18-43) are second and third on the team in points, respectively.
• William Smith's draw control unit leads the Liberty League and is 14th in the nation in draw control percentage (.631).  The Herons have won the battle in the draw circle in all but one game this season.
• Senior Nikki Pio leads William Smith with 23 caused turnovers and is third on the team with 18 ground balls.
• Senior Maura Smeader has played every minute in goal. She is 12-3 with a 7.07 GAA and a .516 save percentage. She is 14th in the nation in GAA and 16th in save percentage.

 
ABOUT THE GARNET CHARGERS

• Union is led offensively by Gillian Joseph's 42 goals, 25 assists and 67 points.  
• Grace Maurer is second on the team with 42 points on 29 goals and 13 assists. She leads the team with 50 draw controls.
• Anna Dembowski leads the Union defense with 23 caused turnovers and 46 ground balls.
• Sydney Widlitz has played the majority of the minutes in goal for the Garnet Chargers. She is 11-3 with a 9.08 GAA and a .446 save percentage.

 
SERIES HISTORY

• Saturday's game will be the 40th meeting between William Smith and Union.
• The Herons lead the all-time series 29-10, including a 17-2 mark in Geneva.
• On March 21, the Herons edged the Garnet Chargers 7-4 in Schenectady. Kate Colvin, Fulton and Quirk all scored twice for the Herons. Smeader made eight saves in the victory.
• This will be the fifth-straight year that William Smith and Union will meet in the Liberty League semifinals.
