Statesmen win Pitt-Bradford Kickoff Classic

BRADFORD, Pa – The Hobart golf team produced four top-10 finishers as the Statesmen finished first place out of 15 teams at the Pitt-Bradford Kickoff Classic at the Pennhills Club this weekend. Hobart shot +14 as a team, finishing two strokes ahead of runners-up, Pitt-Bradford. The Hobart win was the third first place finish of the Mike Long era.
 
First-year Troy Gregg and sophomore Robby Kurzer led the way for the Statesmen, finishing three over par. The duo shot a 74 to finish tied for second place out of 72 golfers.
 
First-year's Aman Dhiman and Ben Bush finished in a tie for seventh in their collegiate debut. The duo finished one stroke behind at +4 on the 71-par course. Sophomore Andrew Murray rounded out the Hobart squad and finished in 26th at +8 through 18 holes.
 
Junior Gavin Poyer also competed this afternoon as an individual entry and finished in 14th place after carding a 77 on the afternoon.
 
Pitt-Bradford and Pitt-Greensburg rounded out the top-three teams at the Pitt-Bradford Kickoff Classic. Pitt-Bradford finished two strokes behind the Statesmen, while Pit-Greensburg finished three strokes behind the hosts. Pitt-Greensburg's Nicholas Thomas was the individual medalist at the event, finishing +2 on the afternoon.

COACHES CORNER: 
"Today was a great team win," said Head Coach Mike Long. "Everyone played well, especially the first-years. This is just a step closer to our final goal of winning the Liberty League."

Hobart will be back in action on Saturday Sept. 6, when it travels to the North Country to compete at the St. Lawrence University Fall Invitational. The two-day invitational is set to start at 1 p.m. at Appleton Golf Course.
