Statesmen to renew rivalry with Golden Eagles Saturday

The Hobart football team will renew its rivalry with Brockport when it makes the short drive west on the Thruway Saturday. The Statesmen and Golden Eagles will kick off at noon on Bob Boozer Field, marking the first gridiron meeting between the teams since 2019.

SERIES HISTORY
  • This will be the 13th meeting between Hobart and Brockport since they first met back in 1949.
  • The Golden Eagles lead the series 7-5.
  • When the teams have played in Brockport, the series is tied 3-3.
  • Hobart won the most recent meeting, 33-7 in Geneva on Sept. 7, 2019.
 
WEEK 1
  • Hobart is looking to rebound from a 28-23 loss at Alfred in Week 1.
  • The Statesmen outgained the Saxons 361 yards to 241 yards, but were undone by three turnovers and seven penalties.
  • Junior running back E.J. Taylor produced his fifth straight 100-yard rushing game, piling up a game-high 102 yards on the ground. He also scored three touchdowns, marking the third straight game he has accomplished that feat.
  • Sophomore quarterback Aidan Conrath threw for 184 yards in his Hobart debut.
  • He completed passes to seven different receivers led by junior wide receiver Marcus Peterson's game-highs of five catches for 85 yards.
  • Defensively, senior linebacker Noah Chachere made a game-high 11 tackles, including two for a loss and a sack.
 
SCOUTING REPORT
  • Brockport opened the season with a 41-0 shutout of Buffalo State.
  • The Golden Eagles put up 379 yards of offense, including 211 rushing, while limiting the Bengals to just 135 yards.
  • Three different Golden Eagles quarterbacks combined for 15-of-18 passing for 168 yards, led by junior Ben Gocella's 10-of-12 passing for 140 yards and a touchdown.
  • Eight different receivers caught passes, led by sophomore wide receiver Nathan Williams' four catches for 75 yards, including a 56-yard TD.
  • On the ground, senior running back Isaiah Simmons broke free for 176 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries (7.0 yds/att).
  • On defense, senior line­backer Luca Friedman made a team-high six tackles and was in on one of Brockport's seven sacks.
