Two members of the Hobart soccer team were honored by the Liberty League for their performances this past week. Sophomore defender Griffin Coutts was named the conference's offensive performer of the week and senior goalie Tommy Chyzowych was named to the weekly honor roll.

Hobart was 2-0-0 on Cozzens Field last week. On Tuesday, the Statesmen dispatched Brockport 4-1, scoring three times in the second half. On Saturday, Hobart opened Liberty League play with a 4-0 win over St. Lawrence. It was the Statesman's largest margin of victory against the Saints in a rivalry that dates back to 1963.

Coutts led the Statesmen with four goals and eight points last week. Against the Golden Eagles, he scored his first collegiate goal on a corner kick. Coutts followed that up with a natural hat trick on Saturday. He is the first Statesman to record a hat trick in over a decade. Coutts' three goals came on three different set pieces. In the 22nd minute, he scored on a scorpion kick, using his left foot to flick home a shot from the top of the 6-yard box. Five minutes later, Coutts headed home a corner kick. In the 53rd minute, he bent a free kick around the St. Lawrence wall and into the lower left corner of the cage. Coutts has started all seven games at left back this season. He is second on the team with four goals and 10 points.

Chyzowych played all 180 minutes in goal. He made two saves and finished the week with a 0.50 GAA. In Tuesday's win over Brockport, Chyzowych had a kick save on a shot in the 27th minute that, at the time, preserved a 1-1 scoreline. On Saturday, he made a diving stop on a St. Lawrence penalty kick just over three minutes into the game.  Chyzowych has started six games in goal this season. He is 5-0-1 with a 0.50 GAA and a .813 save percentage.

Hobart enters the week with a 6-0-1 overall record, 1-0-0 in Liberty League play. The Statesmen will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, when they conclude a three-game homestand against RIT (4-2-0, 0-1-0). The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
