Hobart falls to #21 Bowdoin, #22 Bates

The Hobart squash team concluded its trip through Maine with matches against 21st-ranked Bowdoin and 22nd-ranked Bates. On Friday, the Polar Bears beat the Statesmen 9-0. This morning, the Bobcats won 7-2.
 
Six of Hobart's seven matches this season have been against teams ranked in the top 25 of the College Squash Association Team Rankings.
 
AGAINST THE POLAR BEARS
  • Bowdoin won eight of their nine points in 3-0 sweeps in front of a good crowd full of Bowdoin supporters.
  • Gabriel Garcia had a high-energy matchup in the No. 4 spot, but was edged 3-1. William Maschler took the match 11-4, 4-11, 11-1, 11-1.
  • Adam Le had a tight match in the No. 1 spot, but was edged by Fotis Zafiriou, 11-1, 11-9, 11-8.
 
AGAINST THE BOBCATS
  • The Statesmen took two points against Bates, winning in the No. 3 and the No. 9 spots.
  • Javier De La Vega swept Oscar Hecker, 12-10, 11-9, 11-9 in the No. 3 spot. IT was De La Vega's first win of the season and 27th of his career.
  • Billy Gantcher notched his first win of the season, holding on to beat William Veague, 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 5-11, 11-7.
  • Bates earned its seven points in 3-0 sweeps.
 
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 13, when it heads to Providence, Rhode Island, to take on Brown.
