Hobart competes at Liberty League Championships

CANTON, N.Y.—The Hobart squash team finished sixth at the 2026 Liberty League Men's Squash Championship at St. Lawrence's Robbie Squash Center this past weekend.
 
The Statesmen finished the weekend with a 1-2 record. Hobart beat Bard 6-0. The Statesmen nearly picked up a second win in the tournament, but were edged by Vassar.  
 
FOR THE RECORD  
AGAINST THE SAINTS
  • The Statesmen opened the tournament against the hosts, St. Lawrence. The Saints won seven of their nine points in 3-0 sweeps.
  • Paiva had the closest match on Saturday. Despite losing 3-1, he battled hard, falling 13-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-7 to Miguel Psada Villa.
  • Garcia also lost 3-1
 
AGAINST THE RAPTORS
  • The Statesmen cruised past Bard, posting six 3-0 sweeps.
  • At No. 1, first-year Adam Le won 11-2, 11-3, 11-4, collecting his third win of the year.
  • De La Verga bested Jonas Erasmus, 11-4, 11-5, 11-6.
  • Peter Vorbach only dropped two points in his match with Leo Wainberg-Wolski. The final score was 11-0, 11-2, 11-0.
  • Garcia defeated Kasiem Washington, 11-0, 11-5, 1—15.
  • Mason Graham and Miles Mackey lost just five and three points, respectively, in their matches at No. 5 and No. 6.


AGAINST THE BREWERS
  • Vassar slipped past the Statesmen 5-4 in the final match of the day.
  • The Brewers had three sweeps in the match.
  • Jayden Saldana had the closest match of the day, falling to Alexander Thorn, 10-12, 13-11, 11-5, 4-111, 16-14 in the No. 8 spot.
  • Three of Hobart's points came in the top three spots of the lineup.
  • Le beat, Matthew Okulski, 11-7, 8-11, 11-6, 11-4. It was Le's second win of the day and third win of the season.
  • Paiva knocked off Konstantinos Georgallides, 11-5, 11-9, 4-11, 11-9 at No. 2. It was Pavia's second win over Georgallides this season.
  • De La Vega bested Kyle Benson, 11-5, 4-11, 13-11, 11-6.
  • Garcia rallied to win a tight battle with Gabriel Lugo, 8-11, 11-5, 11-1, 9-11, 11-7.
 
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 21, when it returns to the North Country to take on St. Lawrence. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
