Herons 4th at Liberty League Championships

CANTON,  N.Y.—The William Smith squash t team finished fourth at the 2026 Liberty League Women's Squash Championship at St. Lawrence University's Robbie Squash Center this weekend.
 
The Herons went 1-2 on the weekend, collecting an 8-1 win over Bard on Saturday, securing a spot in the third-place match. William Smith lost to 20th-ranked St. Lawrence and Haverford.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • The Herons have played 10 of their 16 matches this season against teams that are ranked in the top-25 in the CSA Team Rankings.
 
AGAINST THE RAPTORS
  • The Herons opened the tournament with an 8-1 win over Bard. It was the second straight win for the Herons.
  • Five of the Herons' eight points came in 3-0 sweeps.
  • Jada Smith-Padmore beat Tarana Downer, 11-1, 11-2, 11-7. It was her third win of the season.
  • In the No. 2 spot, Jess Finnerty beat Catherine Chapel, 11-5, 11-3, 11-1. It was her third win of the season.
  • Kimberly Javier beat Teresa Kyaw, 11-4, 11-0, 11-6. It was also her third win of the year.
  • Danielle Dezart and Sadie Sanchez also notched sweeps in the No. 7 and No. 9 spots, respectively.
  • In one of the tighter matches of the day, Ashley Ambrosio rallied to beat Najla Nazari, 11-13, 11-7, 11-7, 13-11, in the No. 8 spot.
  • Tamia Rollaing won 3-1 in the No. 3 spot.
  • The Raptor's lone win came in the No. 6 spot.
 
AGAINST THE SAINTS
  • St. Lawrence controlled the match, collecting eight 3-0 sweeps.
  • In the No. 1 spot, Smith-Padmore won the first game, but lost, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-9 to Angel Otshabeng.
 
AGAINST THE FORDS
  • Haverford defeated William Smith 8-1 to finish in third place.
  • The Fords posted four 3-0 sweeps.
  • Dezart nearly came from behind to beat Madeline Bulbulia, but was tripped up 11-5, 11-6, 11-13, 9-11, 11-3.
  • Sadie Sanchez earned the Herons' lone point in the match. She beat Sarah Kotapka, 12-10, 8-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8. It was Sanchez's third win of the season.
 
UP NEXT
William Smith will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 21, when it returns to the North Country to take on St. Lawrence. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
