Swimming & diving set for Liberty League Championships this week

The Hobart and William Smith swimming and diving teams are set to travel to Ithaca, New York, for the Liberty League Championships this week. The four-day meet begins Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium. Each day the preliminary races will begin at 10 a.m., and will be followed by the finals at 6 p.m.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN:
 
Senior Daniel Barrientos has been outstanding from the diving board this season. He leads the Statesmen on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards and has qualified for the NCAA diving regionals for the fourth-straight year.

Sophomore  Gerard Humiston is the team's top freestyler, sporting Hobart's top times at 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 yards.

ABOUT THE HERONS:
 
Junior Mackenzie Morus leads the Herons in points and has posted six of the top times for William Smith. She has the Herons' best times in the 200 and 1000 free, the 200 fly, and the 100, 200, and 400 Individual Medley.
Senior Lea Doufekias Emanuel, who specializes in backstroke, is second on the team in points. She is followed by sophomore Kaleigh Boynton who holds the best times in the 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke for the Herons.
Senior Hali Seidberg and sophomore Aurora Donta-Venman will also look to make waves at the conference championships this week. Seidberg is seeded 14th in the 200 fly, while Donta-Venman is seeded top 24 in the 500 and 1650 free.

Sophomore Fiona Garfield  led William Smith from the diving boards this season. She set a school record on the 3-meter board with a score of 267.45 and qualified for the NCAA diving regionals for the first time in her career.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS:
 
On the men's side, RIT is the defending champion and is ranked 24th in the nation in the latest coach's poll. Ithaca finished second at last season's championships and is ranked 22nd in the coach's poll.
 
On the women's side, the host Bombers are the defending champs, 220.5 points ahead of second place RPI. Back in November, RPI beat Ithaca head-to-head 164-136.
