Schimizzi named Athlete of the Week, Hobart No. 1 ahead of SUNYAC Tournament

2/23/2026 2:51:00 PM

Hobart senior forward Dominic Schimizzi was named the SUNYAC Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week by the conference office today. This is the second straight week that a Statesman has won the award.

Schimizzi led Hobart with five points on three goals and two assists as the Statesmen picked up wins over Buffalo State and Fredonia to close out the regular season. In Friday's 4-0 win over the Bengals, he had an assist. Schimizzi followed that up with a career-high four points, including a hat trick, in the 7-0 win over Fredonia. Two of Schimizzi's three goals came on the power play. He wrapped up the regular season with 14 points on eight goals and six assists.

On Friday, Hobart broke the collegiate hockey record for the longest home win streak. Now at 65 games, the Statesmen surpassed the mark held by Cornell since 1972.  Hobart also matched the program record for longest overall win streak, 31 games, with Saturday's win.

In addition, Hobart (25-0-0, 18-0-0) remained the unanimous No. 1 team in the nation in the USCHO.com poll. This is the 45th consecutive poll that the Statesmen have been ranked No. 1. Hobart is also No. 1 in the NCAA Power Index for the fourth straight week, holding a six-point gap on the No. 2 ranked team. NPI is the formula used to select at-large bids for the NCAA tournament.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 25, when they start the SUNYAC Tournament against No. 8 seed Fredonia (4-20-1, 4-13-1) at 7 p.m.

Tickets for Wednesday's game are $5 for adults, $3 for children 5-12 and children 4 and under are free. Students from any of the SUNYAC member schools are admitted free with a valid ID.  Tickets will go on sale one hour before the opening faceoff.
