Herons win twice at CSA Divisional Championships

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—The William Smith squash team closed out the 2025-26 season with two straight victories at the College Squash Association Divisional Team Championships this weekend. The Herons finished ninth in the Walker Cup.
 
Sophomore Danielle Dezart led the way for William Smith, posting a 3-0 record. Five different Herons were 2-1 on the weekend.
 
CHATHAM MATCH
  • William Smith opened the Walker Cup with a hard-fought battle with the Cougars, falling 5-4.
  • Chatham had four 3-0 sweeps in the victory.  In the No. 1 spot, Jada Smith-Padmore had a hard-fought battle, but was edged by Clara Braga, 11-1, 9-11, 11-5, 11-3.
  • Dezart knocked off Amari Spivey, 11-5, 7-11, 11-1, 11-3 in the No. 6 spot. It was Dezart's fourth win of the season.
  • In the No. 7 spot, Ashley Ambrosio swept Sarah Secco, 11-0, 11-2, 11-1.
  • Sadie Sanchez and Amalia Clemente also had wins against Chatham.
 
VASSAR MATCH
  • William Smith improved to 2-0 against the Brewers on the season with a 7-2 win on Saturday morning.
  • Smith-Padmore posted one of two 3-0 sweeps for the Herons in the match. She beat Charlotte Tobin, 11-9, 11-4, 11-7, in the No. 1 spot. It was Smith-Padmore's 40th win of her career.
  • Scarlett Sandoval swept Sarah Boucher-Rowe, 11-9, 13-11, 11-8 in the No. 4 spot.
  • William Smith earned three more points in 3-1 victories. Senior Jess Finnerty dropped the first game, but won 6-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-4, in the No. 2 spot.
  • Kimberly Javier also had to rally for the win, beating Lexi Donshik, 5-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-5.
  • Dezart won 11-5, 11-4, 8-11, 12-10 in the No. 6 spot.
 
BARD MATCH
  • The Herons also went 2-0 against the Raptors on the year with a pair of 8-1 wins.
  • Six of their eight victories against Bard came in 3-0 sweeps.
  • Dezart rounded out her undefeated weekend with an 11-1, 11-2, 12-10 win in the No. 6 spot.
  • In one of the closest matches of the day, Ashley Ambrosio rallied for a 15-17, 11-7, 11-5, 11-6 victory in the No. 7 spot.
  • Smith-Padmore and Finnerty closed out their collegiate careers with 3-0 sweeps at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
