#8 Herons head to North Country for weekend set

The eighth-ranked William Smith lacrosse team will head to the North Country for a pair of Liberty League games this weekend, March 20-21.  The Herons will take on Clarkson on Friday at 4 p.m. and St. Lawrence on Saturday at 3 p.m.
 
William Smith (5-1, 1-0) is looking to bounce back from a 17-11 loss to fourth-ranked Salisbury on Monday night in Panama City Beach, Florida. Junior Katie Grottenthaler led the Herons with four goals.
 
The Golden Knights are 6-1 this season with a 1-0 mark in Liberty League play. Clarkson has won three straight games, including a 22-5 victory over Bridgewater State on Tuesday.
 
The Saints are 3-3 with a 0-1 mark in Liberty League play. St. Lawrence will host Ithaca on Friday afternoon.

ABOUT THE HERONS
  • Junior Kira Fulton leads the Herons with 17 points on 11 goals and six assists.
  • Fulton is one of three players with 11 goals this season. Senior Taryn Luzi and junior Grace Rund also share the team lead.
  • Junior Mia Falco leads William Smith with nine assists.
  • Along with her 11 goals, Rund has been the Herons' ace in the draw circle with 45 draw controls. She is 11th in the nation in draw controls per game (7.50) and leads a draw unit that is 23rd in the nation in draw control percentage (.630).
  • The Herons are second in the nation in turnovers per game (10.33) and fourth in clearing percentage (.928).

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
  • Clarkson's offense is led by Gabby Cranfield. She has 19 goals, 24 assists and 43 points. She is sixth in the nation in assists and 17th in points.
  • Sydney Nokas (11-11) and Makenna Cassin (18-2) also have 20-plus points for the Golden Knights.
  • Karli Scherpf leads Clarkson with 26 draw controls. Cassin leads the team with 18 caused turnovers and 17 ground balls.
  • Riley Donovan has played the majority of the minutes in goal. She is 6-0 with a 7.19 GAA and a .441 save percentage.

  • Friday's game will be the 26th meeting between William Smith and Clarkson.
