Michael Masino '88 will join Heather Bonner'88 on a panel aiming to spark a conversation around mental health. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Albright Auditorium.
Bonner is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Mission 34. Founded in honor of Bonner's son, Sean, Mission 34 is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness through awareness, education and communication. The group urges openness and support for mental health struggles by emphasizing that seeking help shows strength. The event was brought to campus by the HWS chapter of the organization. Bonner founded Mission 34 in honor of her son Sean.
The event will also include a screening of the award-winning film, "Shattered Ice." The film follows a high school hockey player navigating life after his best friend dies by suicide. He and his team, the Nehoiden Black Bears, become a symbol of resilience and a rallying cry for their town. Together, they find hope in unexpected places to heal their tight-knit New England community and reignite their passion for the sport they fell in love with.
Mission 34's Instagram account states, "The film shows us what a new type of tough really looks like: the courage it takes to be vulnerable, to reach out, to keep showing up for each other even in the darkest moments."
