#7 Herons, #6 Generals set to meet at USA Lacrosse Headquarters

The seventh-ranked William Smith lacrosse team wraps up its regular season on Saturday, April 25, when it travels to Sparks Glencoe, Maryland, for a non-conference contest with sixth-ranked Washington and Lee. Saturday's contest against the Generals is set to begin at noon on Tierney Field. 
 
The Herons enter the week with a 14-2 record and are coming off a pair of Liberty League wins over RPI and Union this past weekend. William Smith clinched the Liberty League regular season title with a 10-0 mark in conference play.  
 
The Generals are 13-3 with an 8-0 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. Washington and Lee is looking to bounce back from a 15-11 loss to Denison on Tuesday.

ABOUT THE HERONS
  • Junior Mia Falco leads the team with 23 assists and 44 points. First-year Cat Colvin is right behind her with 42 points on 27 goals and 15 assists.
  • Senior Taryn Luzi and junior Katie Grottenthaler share the team lead with 31 goals. The Herons have four other players with 20-plus goals on the season. William Smith is first in the Liberty League and 38th in the nation in scoring offense (14.38).
  • Junior Grace Rund paces the draw unit with 89 draw controls. As a unit, the Herons are 10th in the nation in draw control percentage (.647) and 17th in draw controls per game (15.25).
  • William Smith's is 20th in the nation in scoring defense (6.88).
  • Junior Janey Sypeck leads the team with 36 caused turnovers and 34 ground balls. Sypeck leads the Liberty League with 2.57 CTOs/game.
  • Senior Lily Kuhn adds 25 ground balls, and senior Caitie Baker has 26 caused turnovers. Baker was named the IWLCA Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
  • Graduate student Casey Fiore has played the majority of minutes in goal. She is 14-2 with a 6.96 GAA and a .465 save percentage.
 
ABOUT THE GENERALS
  • Kelly Polacek paces the Generals' offense with 56 points and 29 assists.
  • Lara Baki has a team-high 42 goals and Hannah Van Son is right behind her with 40 goals.  
  • Betty Boatwright leads the Generals with 42 draw controls. Van Son has 41. Washington and Lee is 26th in the nation in draw control percentage (.593).
  • The Generals are tied with William Smith for 20th in the nation in scoring defense (6.88).
  • Dagny Tombaugh has a team-high 34 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers.
  • Iman Haddad has played the majority of minutes in goal. Haddad has a 7.83 GAA and a .495 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday's game will be the fourth meeting between the Herons and the Generals.
  • William Smith leads the series 2-1.
  • This will be the first meeting between the teams since 2017, when the Generals edged the Herons 7-6 in an overtime thriller in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA tournament.
