GENEVA, N.Y.—For the first time, the Hobart baseball team will host a Liberty League Crossover Series, welcoming Bard to McDonough Park May 1-2. The best of three series is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m. Friday, May 1 followed by Game 2 on Saturday, May 2 at noon. If necessary, Game 3 would start approximately 30 minutes after the end of Game 2.
Admission to McDonough Park is free for spectators. Fans can follow the action online with the livestream on HWS All-Access and Live Stats.
The winner of the series will advance to the Liberty League Championship Tournament, May 7-9.
SCOUTING THE STATESMEN
- Hobart brings a 25-11 overall record into the series. The Statesmen went 9-5 in the Liberty League West, finishing second in the division standings.
- The Statesmen feature one of the best defenses in the nation. Hobart's .975 team fielding percentage leads the Liberty League and is ninth in Division III.
- Hobart also leads the league in runs (301), triples (19), shutouts (4), strikeout-to-walk (2.05), WHIP (1.38), walks allowed per nine innings (3.56) and winning percentage (.694).
- Senior Teck Nash leads the pitching staff with a 5-1 record, a 3.47 ERA and a 1.21 walks per nine innings, which ranks 18th in the nation.
- First-year shortstop Jack O'Neil is batting a team-leading .386 and team-highs of 23 stolen bases, 49 hits and 38 runs scored.
- Junior first baseman Sean Garvin is Hobart's most dangerous hitter, leading the team in hits (49), doubles (11), triples (3), home runs (4), slugging percentage (.600), OPS (1.081), and runs scored (38). He's second on the team in average (.377) and walks (21).
SCOUTING THE RAPTORS
- Bard is 11-20 overall. The Raptors were 5-7 in the Liberty League East, placing third in the division standings.
- As a team, Bard is hitting .278 with a staff ERA of 10.28 and an .881 fielding percentage.
- First-year infielder Angus Lunt-Woodward is batting a team-high .366 with 21 RBIs and 25 runs scored.
- Junior Charles Lehr has started a team-leading eight games on the mound, compiling a 2-4 record with a 5.57 ERA and 38 strikeouts.
SERIES SNAPSHOT
- Hobart and Bard have played just two games against each other going into the weekend. On April 24, 2024, the Statesmen swept a doubleheader from the Raptors.
- Garvin went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored in the opener, a 17-6 triumph in seven innings. Aaron Forgues got the win on the hill, striking out seven without allowing an earned run over four innings.
- In Game 2, Jack Byrnes' bases loaded triple in the second inning set Hobart on a course for 9-4 win in seven innings. Nash was the winning pitcher, scattering six hits and allowing just one earned run over six innings.
