Caroline Gannon tied for third place individually as the William Smith golf team secured a fourth-place finish in the Keuka Spring Invitational at Lakeside Country Club. The team posted a total score of 422, narrowly missing a top-three spot in a competitive field.
Gannon carded a round of 94 in her first tournament of the spring season. It was her highest finish of the season, surpassing her fourth-place finish at the Keuka Fall Invitational. First-year
Samantha Murray followed closely, tying for eighth with a final score of 103. The highlight of her round was a birdie on the par 5 16th.
Maggie McCarthy secured a tie for 12th, finishing with a score of 105. She posted a birdie on No. 7, a 275-yard par 4. Despite the challenging conditions, these golfers contributed significantly to their team's fourth-place finish.
Gannon was just four shots off the leaders, Geneseo's Jillian Draper and Nazareth's Bethany Wineburg. Wineburg's Golden Flyers won the team title by 13 shots over the Knights. Utica finished third, two strokes ahead of the Herons, while the host Wolves rounded out the top five.
William Smith will compete in the Martin/Wallace Invitational hosted by Cortland April 11-12, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Cortland Country Club.
