ROME, N.Y.—Senior
Caroline Gannon led the William Smith golf team at the 2026 Liberty League Championships this weekend. The two-day tournament was hosted by Teugega Country Club and featured seven teams and 32 golfers.
Gannon shot an opening round 97 on Friday, but made a seven shot improvement in Saturday's final round, finishing in 24th place. First-year
Maggie McCarthy made an eight stroke improvement from Friday to Saturday and placed 29th overall. First-year
Samantha Murray improved her first round score by seven strokes on Saturday and was 30th. Junior
Tara Valas made the biggest improvement from Round 1 to Round 2, lowering her 18-hole score by 11 strokes, finishing in 31st place.
Ranked second in the nation, NYU won the league championship by 21 strokes over No. 14 Wellesley. The Violets had the top five finishers in the tournament. Ithaca, Union, St. Lawrence, Vassar and William Smith rounded out the field.
Gannon led the Herons in scoring average this season (92.3) and finished her career with a 90.3 average.
