William Smith senior midfielder Delaney Cassidy was tabbed the Liberty League Women's Lacrosse Defensive Performer of the Week by the conference office today.

Cassidy played an important role on both ends of the field in the Herons' 11-10 loss to Williams in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Cassidy led the Herons with three caused turnovers, three ground balls and had two draw controls against the Ephs. She also had a goal and an assist. Cassidy's contributions were noticeable throughout the game, but her biggest series came in the closing 90 seconds of regulation, where she had a caused turnover, scooped up the ground ball and then scored to bring William Smith within one. Cassidy then won the ensuing draw to give the Herons a chance to tie the game.

A captain, Cassidy started 18 games this spring. She finished the year with a career-high 22 goals, seven assists and 29 points. Cassidy also had a career-high 23 caused turnovers.

William Smith, which is 19th in the nation in scoring defense (7.00), won nine of the final 10 defensive performers of the week awards presented by the league. Cassidy and the Herons' draw unit are seventh in the nation in draw control percentage (.644).

William Smith concluded its season with a 17-3 record.
