#5 Herons earn NCAA 1st round bye

The fifth-ranked William Smith lacrosse team will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship this weekend, May 9-10, on Boswell Field at David J. Urick Stadium. The Herons received a bye to the second round and will face the winner of the Williams and Grove City first round game.
 
The Ephs and Wolverines will play on Saturday with the winner advancing to Sunday to take on William Smith. Both games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
 
Tickets are $6 for general admission, $3 for senior citizens, military personnel and students, and children ages 3-12 are $2.
 
Fans unable to make it to Boswell Field can follow the action online with Live Stats and video through the NCAA Champs Pass.
 
William Smith is making its 10th-straight and 26th overall NCAA tournament appearance. The Herons are 17-2 this season and earned the Liberty League's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament with a 13-8 win over Union in the Liberty League Championship Game.
 
William Smith is 33-25 in its previous trips to the NCAA tournament and reached the third round in 2025. The Herons enter the week first in the nation in clearing percentage (.921), second in turnovers per game (11.95), fifth in winning percentage (.895), seventh in draw control percentage (.644), 21st in scoring defense (6.79) and 23rd in draw controls per game (14.84).
 
Ranked 20th in the IWLCA poll, Williams is 9-7 and earned an at-large bid to its seventh NCAA appearance. The Ephs are 8-6 in their previous trips to the dance.
 
Grove City is 16-3 and earned the Presidents' Athletic Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The Wolverines are making their third trip to the NCAA Tournament.
