Box Score CANTON, N.Y.—The Hobart tennis team opened its 2026-27 season at the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic over the weekend.
The young Statesmen squad put together a strong opening weekend, finishing 12-11 in singles play and 4-5 in doubles matches.
A FLIGHT SINGLES
- Sophomore Michael Georgelis went 2-1, falling in the semifinal match. Georgelis opened the tournament, knocking off Ithaca's Timur Gilmanov, 8-5. He followed that up with an 8-3 win in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he was defeated by Rochester's Haocheng Liu, 8-5.
- Senior Achilleas Kousaridis also went 2-1 falling in the semifinal match. Kousaridis defeated St. Lawrence's Joshua David, 9-7, in his opening match. He followed that with a dominant win over Union's Simon Philip 8-2, before falling in the semifinals to Ithaca's Ivan Kisic, 8-4.
- First-year Dylan Ortiz fell in the quarterfinal match to Liu, 8-4, after defeating St. Lawerence's Marco Lee 8-4 in his collegiate debut.
B FLIGHT SINGLES
- First-year Kato Tsang and sophomore Tejus Ranadive represented the statesmen in B Flight.
- Ranadive advanced to the semifinals, knocking off St. Lawrence's Charles Schepens 8-3 and Rochester's Andrew Balsamo 8-4. In the semifinals, he was edged by Rochester's Alan Wang 8-6.
- Tsang lost his opening match to Rochester's Joshua Chu 8-4 and fell again in the consolation draw to St. Lawrence's Kameron Fernandez 8-3.
C FLIGHT SINGLES
- Sophomore Tyler Snyder, and first-year's Roman Ortego Peris and Daniel Gallagher competed in the C Flight Draw.
- Ortega Peris was 3-1, falling in the finals. On his way to the finals, Ortega Peris defeated Ithaca's Daivat Mehta 8-4, Union's Riichi Nagatake 9-8 (7-5) and classmate, Gallagher, 8-6. He then fell to Ithaca's Manurl Gali Specos 8-3 in the finals.
- Gallagher was 2-1, earning wins over St. Lawrence's Sebastian Boada 8-2 and MJ Chaho 8-1.
DOUBLES
- Sophomore Everett Reid and Kousaridis went 1-1 as a duo, advancing to the quarterfinals of A Flight. They opened the tournament with an 8-3 win over St. Lawrence's Lee and Fernandez and then fell to an Ithaca duo 8-7 in the quarterfinals.
- Ranadive and Ortiz also went 1-1 as a team, advancing to the quarterfinals of A flight. They opened the tournament with an 8-4 win over Rochester's Josh Chu and Alan Wang and fell in the quarterfinals to St. Lawrence's Charles Schepens and Bennett Stout, 8-2.
- Kato and Gallagher went 0-2 in A Flight doubles, while Georgelis and Snyder went 3-1 in B flight doubles winning their matches in the consolation draw.

Hobart will be back in action Sept. 26-28, when it travels to Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for the ITA Northeast Regional Championships.
