Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The 11th-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team ended the regular season with a decisive 20-7 win over Skidmore College this afternoon in a Liberty League contest on McCooey Field. The Herons improve to 13-3 overall and 6-2 in the conference, while the Thoroughbreds fall to 2-14 on the season and 0-8 in the league.
Sophomore
Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.) again headlined the offense for William Smith, tallying three goals and three assists. Senior
Jesse McKenna (Middlesex School/Wenham, Mass.) totaled two goals and two assists, while senior
Sarah Davidson (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.) and junior
Michaela Parnell (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) each netted three goals.
For the Thoroughbreds, junior Laura Flynn (Wellesley/Wellesley, Mass.) and first-year Sidney Weill (Hopkins School/Woodbridge, Conn.) both notched two goals, while first-year Lauren McCarthy (Ipswich/Ipswich, Mass.) added a goal and a helper.
The Herons held a 4-1 lead following Parnell’s first goal with 17 minutes, 19 seconds remaining in the first half. She intercepted a pass from Skidmore’s junior goalkeeper Courtney DeStefano (Moses Brown School/Rehoboth, Mass.), then buried the goal over DeStefano’s shoulder at point-blank range.
Skidmore responded with three-straight goals from Flynn, McCarthy, and first-year Kimberly Segalas (King & Low-Heywood Thomas/Stamford, Conn.), tying the game at 4-all with 13:17 left on the clock.
William Smith took control of the game for good after Fitzgerald sparked a five-goal scoring run with her second tally of the day at the 9:43 mark. Weill and Parnell traded goals to end the period, and the Herons carried a 10-5 lead into halftime.
Stahl found Parnell to begin the scoring in the second stanza, after just 47 seconds. The hosts went on to outscore Skidmore 10-2 in the half, with ten different Herons netting goals. First-year
Alayna Beebe (Prout School/Newport, R.I.) notched her first career goal, while juniors
Torie Allen (Governor Dummer Academy/Dedham, Mass.) and
Nina Sperry (Daniel Hand/Madison, Conn.), and first-years Shannon O’Neill (Kent School/Trumbull, Conn.) and
Marlowe Mavian (Wellington School/Columbus, Ohio) also got in on the scoring.

Morgan Baird (Pingree School/Gloucester, Mass.) recorded 15 saves in the victory, while DeStefano finished with 13 saves for the visitors.
William Smith will be in action on May 2, when it takes on No. 8 Union in the semifinal round of the Liberty League Tournament hosted by Hamilton College.
