ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Hobart College tennis team split two matches today on Day 1 of the Flower City Invitational. The Statesmen fell to Oneonta 5-2, before rebounding to defeat RIT by the same score. Hobart now stands at 1-2 overall.
Against Oneonta, first-year
Kevin Kent (Trinity-Pawling/New York, N.Y.) posted a win at sixth singles (6-2, 6-4), and then teamed up with sophomore
Matt Chin (Hingham/Hingham, Mass.) for a win at third doubles (8-6).
More Statesmen stepped up for the match against the Tigers. Chin and Kent again took third doubles, this time with a score of 8-5. Kent won again at sixth singles (6-2, 6-1), while Chin won at fourth singles (6-4, 6-4). Also winning their singles matches were senior James Micheroni (Sharon/Sharon, Mass.) (6-1, 6-2) and first-year
Alex Sipilief (Minisink Valley/Florida, N.Y.) (6-1, 6-1), at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively.
The Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow, Sept. 14, when they take on Ithaca. The match time will depend on the weather, either at 9 a.m. or 11 a.m.
