CANTON, N.Y.—The William Smith College squash team competed in the Liberty League Championships at St. Lawrence over the weekend. The Herons dropped both matches they played in, falling to the host Saints 6-3 on Saturday and Vassar 7-2 on Sunday. William Smith now holds a 1-2 overall record.
On Saturday, senior
Medora Hartz led the Herons with an exciting 3-1 win at No. 2. She defeated the Saints' Jenn Hearn 13-11, 11-7, 7-11, 14-12. First-years
Anne Habecker and
Courtney Leous picked up the victories at Nos. 7 and 8, respectively. Habecker downed Alyssa Smith 3-1 (6-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9), while Leous earned a hard-fought 3-2 win vs. Jessie Ziegler (11-7, 11-7, 8-11, 7-11, 12-10).
Senior
Katie Mullen and sophomore
Katie Riordan led the way on Sunday. Mullen defeated Brewer Hope Blinkoff 3-1 at No.3, 11-5, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8, while Riordan earned a 3-2 victory over Olivia Mak at No. 9, 11-4, 11-4, 6-11, 4-11, 11-5.
The William Smith squash team will be back in action Dec. 5-6, when the Herons compete in the Wesleyan Round Robin. William Smith will take on Wesleyan (12:15 p.m.), Colby (4:30 p.m.) and Smith (5:45 p.m.) on Saturday, before squaring off against Wellesley (9 a.m.) and Mt. Holyoke (11:45 a.m.) on Sunday.
