Heron squash has mixed results at Colgate, Hamilton

HAMILTON/CLINTON, N.Y.—The William Smith squash team began the day on a positive note, blanking Colgate 9-0, but the Herons dropped their next two matches of the day, taking an 8-1 loss at Hamilton followed by a 5-4 setback to St. Lawrence, also at Hamilton. William Smith's Sarah Hallberg won all three of her matches on the day.

The 21st-ranked Herons opened the day's competition with a 9-0 triumph over the Red Raiders. Lori Stump, Katie Baker, Katie Mullen, Medora Hartz, Alexa Comstock, Megan Peterson, and Hallberg won matches one through seven, respectively, by the same 3-0 score. Colgate forfeited the No. 8 and No. 9 matches.

Following the match, the Herons drove to Clinton for showdowns with the 16th-ranked Continentals and the Saints. Hallberg's 3-0 win at No. 8 was William Smith's only point of the Hamilton match. The Herons came closer to victory in their final match of the day, getting wins from Stump, Hartz, Hallberg, and Eliza Braendel at No. 1, No. 5, No. 8, and No. 9, respectively.

William Smith (6-9) will wrap up a busy weekend at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 at No. 7 Cornell.
