Hobart College first-year Kevin Bates (Groton-Dunstable/Groton, Mass.) was tabbed the Liberty League Men's Tennis Co-Rookie of the Week yesterday by the league office. Bates helped the Statesmen to a 7-2 victory over St. Michael's in their first match of the spring on Sunday.

Bates kicked off the spring season with a win at No. 3 singles, and then teamed up with Matt Chin for a victory at No. 2 doubles. The victories marked the first of Bates' young career.

The Hobart tennis team (2-5) fell to Wisconsin-Eau Claire 9-0 earlier today in Hilton Head, S.C. The Statesmen will be back in action on March 19, when they take on Denison at noon.
