Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.). The Herons improve to 2-0 on the young season, while the Golden Eagles drop to 0-2 overall.
In addition to Fitzgerald's seven goals, first-year
Lucy Johnson (Millburn/Short Hills, N.J.) and junior
Sarah Goodkind (Millbrook School/Greenwich, Conn.) each tallied three goals and two assists, while first-year Roise Scheibel (Auburn/Auburn, N.Y.) netted three goals as well. Johnson also picked up five ground balls, while senior
Torie Allen (The Governor's Academy/Dedham, Mass.) scooped up a game-high six.
Julia Decker notched four goals for Brockport, while Carly Motondo and Karen Bianchi each added two.
The Herons jumped out to an early lead, thanks to an opening goal from Johnson just 54 seconds into the contest. Fitzgerald netted her first of the day a few minutes later, increasing the lead to 2-0. William Smith grabbed its largest lead of the first half, 7-3, following back-to-back scores from Goodkind and sophomore
Alayna Beebe (Prout School/Newport, R.I.) in the 20th minute.
The Golden Eagles mounted a comeback over the final nine minutes of the stanza, outscoring William Smith 4-1 in that time frame, including two from Decker. Brockport cut its deficit to one, 8-7, by halftime.
Just 1:01 into the second half, the Golden Eagles tied the game at 8-all, then took a 9-8 lead after another Decker tally 42 seconds later.

Michaela Parnell (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) set up first-year
Callie Frelinghuysen's (Darien/Darien, Conn.) first collegiate goal, tying the game at 9-9. Just 14 seconds later, Goodkind found the back of the net again to reclaim the lead for William Smith. The Herons took over from there, outscoring Brockport 9-2 for the remainder of the game, including three goals in a span of five minutes from Fitzgerald.
William Smith senior goalie Rebecca Josefiak (West Seneca East/West Seneca, N.Y.) collected nine saves, while Jamie Kaminski stopped 15 shots for the Golden Eagles.
