#6 Hamilton edges #16 William Smith in overtime

Box Score CLINTON, N.Y.—The 16th-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team fell to sixth-ranked Hamilton 8-7 in overtime in a Liberty League contest today at Campus Road Athletic Field. Heron senior Michaela Parnell (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) netted the game-tying goal with 1 minute, 14 seconds left in regulation to force extra time, but Continental Anne Graveley would score the game-winner with six seconds to play to give Hamilton the victory. The Herons slip to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while the Continentals improve to 9-1 on the season, 5-0 in the Liberty League.

Junior Sarah Goodkind (Millbrook School/Greenwich, Conn.) led William Smith with two goals and an assist, while Parnell and junior Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.) added two goals apiece.

The Continentals were led by Kallie Briscoe's three goals and two helpers, while Kate Marek and Graveley each tallied twice.

Hamilton jumped out to a 2-0 lead, thanks to goals from Marek and Briscoe. William Smith answered a short time later with its first score of the day. Sophomore Kara Grogan (Gunnery School/West Simsbury, Conn.) found classmate Cassie Findlay (Episcopal/Riverside, Conn.) for the tally with 15:24 to play in the half.

Fitzgerald evened the contest at 2-all off an assist from Goodkind less than three minutes later, but Hamilton's Marek and Liz Rave would net back-to-back scores to reclaim the hosts' two-goal lead. With 56 seconds to play before the break, Fitzgerald scored her 33rd goal of the season, bringing the Herons within one, 4-3, but Graveley found the back of the net with 2 seconds remaining to give the Continentals a 5-3 advantage at the break.

William Smith came out firing in the second half, scoring the first three goals of the stanza to grab a 6-5 lead with 19:31 on the clock. Findlay found Goodkind to start the run, followed by Parnell's first goal of the day. Goodkind tallied again, thanks to a helper from junior Brittany Callaghan (St. Luke's School/Armonk, N.Y.), to give the Herons their first lead of the day.

Briscoe scored consecutive unassisted goals to put the Continentals back on top, 7-6, before Parnell's second score of the day forced overtime.

Senior Heron goalkeeper Becky Josefiak (West Seneca East/West Seneca, N.Y.) collected a career-high 17 saves, including two clutch stops in the final minute of regulation. Hamilton goalie Kate Fowler recorded five saves. The Continentals out shot William Smith 33-14.

William Smith will be back in action on April 15, when the Herons travel to Nazareth for a non-league contest at 5 p.m.
