The William Smith College lacrosse team is ranked 16th in Division III for the third straight week, according to the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll. The Herons played one game last week, falling to then sixth-ranked Hamilton in overtime, 8-7.
Backed by senior goalkeeper
Becky Josefiak (West Seneca East/West Seneca, N.Y.), the William Smith defense held the defending national champion Continentals to just eight goals, more than seven goals below their season average. The Liberty League Co-Defensive Performer of the Week, Josefiak collected a career-high 17 saves in the contest, while senior
Torie Allen (The Governor's Academy/Dedham, Mass.) picked up a game and career-high eight ground balls.
Offensively, the Herons were led by senior
Michaela Parnell's (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) timely goals. She tallied twice, each time tying the game. Parnell netted the equalizer with 1 minute, 14 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and evened the contest at 5-all early in the second half. Junior
Sarah Goodkind (Millbrook School/Greenwich, Conn.) led William Smith with two goals and an assist, while classmate
Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.) also scored twice.
The Herons will travel to Nazareth tomorrow, April 15, to take on the Golden Flyers (7-4) at 5 p.m. Fans unable to make it to the game can listen live on
