Two members of the William Smith College lacrosse team were honored by the Liberty League office this afternoon, after leading the 16th-ranked Herons to victories over Nazareth 17-6 and Rochester 17-8 last week. Senior
Becky Josefiak (West Seneca East/West Seneca, N.Y.) was named the Co-Defensive Performer of the Week for the second time in a row, while first-year
Lucy Johnson (Millburn/Short Hills, N.J.) was tabbed the Co-Rookie of the Week for the third time this spring.
Josefiak recorded a 7.00 goals against average and a .632 save percentage for William Smith. She collected 13 saves vs. the Golden Flyers, and stopped 11 shots against the Yellowjackets. Josefiak also picked up seven ground balls and caused a turnover on the week. She currently leads the Liberty League with a .536 save percentage, and ranks third in goals against average (8.74).
Johnson led the Herons in scoring last week, tallying eight goals and two assists. She scored three goals, including the game-winner, and added a helper at Nazareth. Johnson went on to net a career-high five goals in William Smith's win over Rochester. She also assisted on the game-winner vs. the Yellowjackets. Johnson ranks second on the team in goals (29) and eighth in the Liberty League in goals per game (2.64).
The Herons (9-2) will host Ithaca (6-7) in their final regular season home game of the season on April 21 at 5 p.m. Fans unable to make it to McCooey Field can watch the game live on
