Heron squash defeats Wellesley, Columbia

AMHERST, Mass.—The William Smith College squash team posted a 2-1 record on Day 1 of the Amherst/Mt. Holyoke/Smith Round Robin. The Herons fell to Amherst 9-0, and defeated Wellesley 9-0 and Columbia 5-4. William Smith currently holds a 5-6 overall record.

Seniors Katie Mullen and Sarah Hallberg, and first-years Olivia Beckwith, Anne Habecker, and Lucia Rowe, led the Herons with two victories each today. Against Columbia, Mullen and Beckwith topped their opponents 3-2 at No. 3 and No. 7, respectively, while Hallberg (3-0), Habecker (3-1) and Rowe (3-0) won at Nos. 4, 8, and 9, respectively. All five downed their opponents from Wellesley 3-0, playing in the same positions.

William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 24, at the Amherst/Mt. Holyoke/Smith Round Robin. The Herons will take on Smith and Tufts.
