GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team picked up its second dual match victory in as many tries, topping St. John Fisher 9-0 at the HWS Tennis Center this afternoon.
The Herons (2-0) swept the doubles points. The first singles pairing of senior
Amanda Slack and junior
Casey Kennedy faced the stiffest challenge, defeating Elena Vahl and Marissa Rotondo 8-5. Sophomores
Hallsey Leighton and
Remy Raevsky won at second doubles, while junior
Joanie Hilton and sophomore
Kiara Ocasio were victorious at No. 3.
In singles play, Slack again faced the most challenging road to victory, winning her first set 6-4 over Vahl, before closing out the match 6-0. No other Heron lost more than three games in her match, including 6-0,6-0 victories by Kennedy at No. 2, Ocasio at No. 3, and Raevsky at No. 6.
William Smith will close out its fall schedule Oct. 15-17 in the New York State Championships, hosted by Cornell. St. John Fisher (5-5) will travel to Hartwick for its next match at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9.
