Herons compete at Wesleyan Round Robin

MIDDLETOWN, CONN.—
The William Smith squash team posted a 2-3 record over the weekend in the Wesleyan Round Robin on Saturday and Sunday. Today No. 25 William Smith earned 7-2 victories over No. 28 Wellesley and No. 29 Smith, while dropping matches 9-0 to No. 11 Middlebury, No. 16 Wesleyan, and No. 13 Mount Holyoke on Saturday.

Against Wellesley, sophomore Lucia Rowe posted a 3-1 win over Wellesley's Dorothy Vickery by scores of 11-13, 11-4, 11-7 and 11-6. Sophomore Anne Habecker, sophomore Olivia Beckwith, junior Katie Riordan, first-year Ginny McDermott, sophomore Courtney Leous, and senior Else Ross all earned 3-0 victories at Nos. 4-9, respectively.

In the final match of the weekend over Smith, Rowe fought hard at the No. 3 spot to post a 3-2 win over Smith's Jasimine Wallas by scores of 10-12, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7, and 11-5. At No. 5, Beckwith dropped her first game 11-6, but rallied to win the next three 13-11, 11-9 and 11-4. Habecker registered a 3-0 win at No. 4. Riordan, McDermott, Leous, and Ross also earned 3-0 wins at the 6-9 spots, respectively to secure the Heron victory.

William Smith (5-4 overall) will be back in action Jan. 22-23, when the Herons compete in the Smith Round Robin.
