Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—Defensive stops were few and far between in Bristol Gym, but when the final buzzer sounded visiting St. Lawrence had just enough to slip past Hobart 105-98. The two teams combined to take 146 shots, making 73, including a combined 26-of-62 from behind the three-point arc, all season-highs for a Hobart game that ended in regulation this season.
Tim Llewellyn led the three-point parade, sinking 7-of-12 on his way to 23 points and four steals.
Stefan Thompson added a quartet of triples and his second double-double of the week on 22 points and a game-high 10 assists, as well as four steals.
Matt Pebole led Hobart with 25 points on 8-of-18 shooting.
Garrett Sharlow paced the Saints with game-highs of 27 points and 10 rebounds. Josh Sharlow added 21 points, eight assists, and five steals, while Nick Meunier, Andy Hoercher, and Ralph Temgoua chipped in 17, 12, and 10 points, respectively.
Hobart (14-9, 7-5) faced a five-point hole early, but then the shots started dropping. With the game tied 14-all, the Statesmen scored 11 unanswered points, including a pair of threes by
Greg Stern, to take the game's first double digit lead. Hobart pushed its advantage to as many as 15, 44-29 at the 7:11 mark, before St. Lawrence fought its way back into the game.
The Saints (12-11, 8-4) outscored the Statesmen 27-5 over the final seven minutes of the half, netting the final 12 points of the half to take a 56-49 lead into the break. SLU shot 59.5 percent from the floor, including 6-of-11 from behind the arc. Hobart was better outside the arc (10-18, .556) than in it (6-19, .316).
In the second half, St. Lawrence grew its lead to as many as 14 (73-59 with 13:01 left), but Hobart would not go quietly. The Statesmen closed to within two, 88-86, on a pair of free throws by Thompson with 2:54 remaining, but the Saints quelled the threat with five straight points. Hobart was unable to get within a single possession the rest of the way.
The Statesmen will close out the regular season with a pair of road games, the first at 8 p.m. on Feb. 19, when they visit Rensselaer (13-8, 5-6). The Saints return home to face the Skidmore (15-8, 8-4) at 8 p.m. on Feb. 19.
