NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The William Smith College squash team fell to Wesleyan 9-0 today in the first round of the Walker Cup, the “C” division of the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships. The Herons slip to 8-9 overall.
Seniors
Katie Mullen and
Emily Hazenberg, and sophomore
Katie Riordan all jumped out to early 1-0 leads at Nos. 2, 4, and 8, respectively, but ended up falling to their opponents 3-1.
At No. 7, first-year
Lucia Rowe battled back from a 1-0 deficit vs. Caroline Fox to even the match at 1-all, but Fox bounced back to narrowly win the next two, 12-10, 11-7.
William Smith will be back on the courts tomorrow, Feb. 27, when they take on St. Lawrence in the Walker Cup consolation semifinal at 9 a.m.
