Herons fall to Polar Bears

NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The William Smith College squash team fell to Bowdoin 7-2 today in the consolation final of the Walker Cup, the “C” division of the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships. The Herons wrap the 2009-10 season with a 9-10 overall mark.

First-years Anne Habecker and Lucia Rowe won at No. 8 and No. 9, respectively, for William Smith. Habecker defeated Louisa Cannell 3-0 (11-8, 13-11, 11-9), while Rowe topped Kathryn Woo by the same score (11-6, 11-4, 11-6). Rowe now owns a 7-2 individual record on the season, including a 7-1 mark at No. 9, while Habecker has earned a 9-5 individual record and is 8-1 at No. 8.

At No. 5, first-year Olivia Beckwith took a 2-1 lead over Bonnie Cao with a 12-10 win in the first game and an 11-9 victory in game three. However, Cao came back to win the match 3-2, taking the final two games 11-5 and 11-6.
