POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—The Hobart College tennis team defeated Union 5-2 this afternoon, advancing to the Liberty League Tournament semifinal round. The Statesmen (8-10) will take on tournament host and top-seeded Vassar later tonight for a chance to play for the conference title.
Senior
Guillaume Etlin and sophomore
Kevin Bates picked up the lone doubles victory for Hobart. They topped Matt Goodnow and Alex Katz at No. 3, 8-2.
Etlin and Bates went on to earn singles wins as well. Etlin defeated Goodnow 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4, while Bates downed Mike Kanner 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5.
Sophomore
Matt Hursh and first-year
Alex James also recorded singles victories. At No. 2, Hursh earned a 6-4, 6-3 decision vs. Saul Kurtz, and James posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Katz at No. 3.
