Statesmen fall to top-seeded Brewers

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—The Hobart College tennis team lost to top-seeded Vassar 5-0 tonight in the Liberty League Tournament semifinal round. The Statesmen slip to 8-11 overall, while the Brewers improve to 13-2 on the year.

Vassar swept doubles action, and needed just two singles victories to win the match. Brewer Andrew Guzick defeated first-year Alex James at No. 3, and Max Wilner topped senior Guillaume Etlin at No. 4. Due to time constraints, the other four singles matches remained unfinished.

Etlin and sophomore Kevin Bates teamed up at third doubles. They pushed Vassar's Greg Katz and Josh Jasso to the limit, but fell in the tiebreaker 9-8 (8-6).

Hobart will be back on the courts tomorrow, April 18, when the Statesmen take on Skidmore in the third-place match at 9 a.m.
