ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Hobart tennis team went 1-2 in the Flower City Invitational over the weekend, finishing fourth in the standings. The Statesmen won their opening match 5-0 over Nazareth, but dropped 5-2 decisions to Oneonta and Rochester.
On Saturday morning against the Golden Flyers, Hobart swept the doubles matches to build a 3-0 lead. In singles play, senior
Matt Chin won 6-1, 6-2 over Erik Manske at fifth singles and junior
Walter Green topped Nick Lord 6-1, 6-1 to secure the match.
After falling to the Red Dragons in the semifinals, the Statesmen looked to rebound against the Yellowjackets. Sophomore

Alex James got the team off to a good start, winning first doubles 8-6 over Daniel Barbash and Yoni Zuckerman. Unfortunately for Hobart, Rochester rebounded to take the second and third doubles points.
In singles play, James again scored a victory for the Statesmen, defeating Matt Volkov 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4. The Yellowjackets, however, won the top three singles matches to clinch the victory.
Hobart will be back in action Oct. 1-3, in the annual USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championship.
