HOUGHTON, N.Y.—The William Smith College cross country team finished in eighth place at the 2010 Highlander Invitational at Houghton College this afternoon. First-year
Maggie Nash was the first Heron to cross the finish claiming 16th out of 146 runners.
Nash completed the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 44.97 seconds. She was just .40 seconds behind the Houghton runner who took 15th place. First-year
Meghan Gaucher was the next William Smith runner to finish taking 34th place with a time of 19:21.40. Finishing in 52nd place was first-year KC Cronmiller. She recorded a time of 19:53.31.

Kelly Watters and first-year
Marielle Verni rounded out the top 5 finishers for the Herons claiming 77th and 86th place, respectively. Watters crossed the finish line in 20:29.75, and Verni recorded a time of 20:42.54.
William Smith finished with a team score of 193 points. Indiana Wesleyan University finished first with 22 points. Brockport took second with 88 points, and Houghton took third with 96 points.
The Herons will next compete at the Geneseo Invitational on Oct. 2 at 11 a.m.
