UTICA, N.Y. -- First-year
Maggie Nash earned a second place finish to lead the William Smith cross country team to a victory at the SUNYIT Invitational on Saturday.
Nash completed the 5-kilometer course in 21 minutes, 17.4 seconds. As a team the Herons earned 48 points. They were 49 points ahead of runner-up Potsdam (97).
First-year
Meghan Gaucher was the next William Smith runner to cross the finish line. She placed fourth with a time of 21:39.0. Sophomore
Kelly Watters finished in eighth place posting a time of 22:38.2.
Next in for the Herons were first-years
Melissa Haggerty and
Marielle Verni. They placed 15th and 19th respectively in their first collegiate race. Junior
Molly Sharry finished 23rd.
The William Smith cross country team will be back in action Sept. 11, when they will compete at the Oswego State Invitational at 11 a.m.
