NORTHAMPTON, MASS.—The No. 25 William Smith squash team earned three wins on their first day competing in the 2011 Smith College Squash Invitational. The Herons started off the day with an 8-1 win over No. 24 Connecticut College and then defeated No. 28 Wellesley, 7-2. William Smith finished off the day with an 8-1 victory over No. 29 Northeastern.

Tyler Mitchell all defeated their opponents in three straight games at Nos. 2,4,6,7, and 9, respectively. At No. 3, sophomore
Lucia Rowe picked up a close 3-2 victory by scores of 11-7, 6-11, 11-13, 11-9, and 11-4. Sophomore

Else Ross earned 3-1 wins at No. 5 and No. 8, respectively.
In the Herons second match of the day, Rowe defeated her opponent 3-0 at the No. 3 spot, and Leous, Beckwith, McDermott, Ross and Mitchell all cruised to 3-0 wins at Nos. 5-9. Habecker won her first two games 11-8 and then dropped a close third game, 13-11, but rallied for an 11-5 win in the final game.
In the final match of the day, the Herons earned all eight of their wins in three straight games. First-year
Victoria Scott and Comstock defeated their opponents at the top two spots. Habecker, Leous, Beckwith, McDermott, Ross, and Mitchell followed suit sweeping their opponents at Nos. 4-9.
William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 23, taking on host No. 27 Smith College at 10 a.m.
