PRINCETON, N.J.—The William Smith squash team, ranked 23rd in the most recent College Squash Association Rankings, fell 6-3 to No. 22 Vassar in the consolation semifinals of the Walker Cup this morning.
Sophomore
Olivia Beckwith led the Herons with a close 3-2 win at No. 6. After losing her first two games 9-11 and 6-11, she rallied to win the last three 11-6, 11-4, and 11-9 to improve to 14-5 this season. First-year
Ginny McDermott defeated Vassar's Avery Siciliano 3-1 at No. 7 for her 13th win this year.
At No. 9, first-year
Tyler Mitchell picked up the third William Smith victory. She won the first two games 12-10 and 11-9, but dropped the third and fourth 12-14 and 8-11. Mitchell fought back for an 11-8 win in the final game, and improved her record to 9-4 this season.
The Herons will play their final match of the CSA Team Championships tomorrow, Feb. 20 at 8:30 a.m. against the losing team in the Tufts-Colby match that is being played later this afternoon.
