Box Score Box Score

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—
William Smith senior guard Mollie Danahy scored 20 points and junior forward Kristen Kush posted a double-double, but it wasn't enough to hold off Skidmore's second half charge, as the Thoroughbreds posted a 56-49 Liberty League women's basketball victory. Both teams are now 10-10 overall, while Skidmore (6-4) has a half game lead over the Herons (5-4) in the conference standings.

Neither team shot well from the field in the first half but William Smith was able to build a 10-point lead on a Liz Douglass layup with 3:12 remaining in the first half. Skidmore cut into the advantage, scoring the final six points of the half and trailed 22-18 at the break.

The Herons netted the first four points of the second half, but the Thoroughbreds went on a 16-2 run over the next six and a half minutes, capped by Jordan Wartts' layup with 12:22 remaining. Skidmore pushed its lead to 11 after a pair of free throw from Megan Gaugler at 5:44.

William Smith battled back and was able to whittle its deficit down to just two, 45-43, after another Douglass layup, but couldn't get any closer as Skidmore finished 7-for-8 from the line down the stretch.

Danahy was 7-of-12 from the floor, including 2-for-2 from beyond the 3-point arc, and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Kush recorded 11 points, a game-high 10 rebounds, and a team-high four steals. Douglass added 10 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.

Gaugler finished with 20 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two blocks to lead the Thoroughbreds.

Skidmore had a decisive advantage at the free throw line, making 20-of-29, while William Smith converted 11-of-16.

The Herons will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 8, when they travel to Hamilton. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
