Hobart takes third in Liberty League Tournament

CANTON, N.Y.—
The Hobart College tennis team cruised to a 7-2 win over St. Lawrence University to claim third place in the 2011 Liberty League Tournament. The Statesmen finish out the season with an 11-10 record, while the Saints wrap up the year at 7-10.

Hobart came out of doubles play with two points. Sophomore Bruce Grant and sophomore Alex James posted an 8-6 win at the top spot. It was their 11th doubles victory this season. Sophomore Sam DeLuccia and junior Kevin Bates earned at 8-5 victory at No. 3. They led the team with a 13-5 doubles record.

In singles, Grant triumphed over St. Lawrence's Tony Wilkey, 6-2, 7-6 at the No. 1 spot. It marked his seventh singles win this year. DeLuccia logged his second win of the day and 11th of the season, topping Ren Gates 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. At No. 4, James posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory. He improved his singles mark to 11-9. Bates came out on top of a close 5-7, 6-3, 10-6 match at No. 5. It was his seventh victory this year. Junior Walter Green breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6. Green recorded a team-high 12 singles wins this season.
