Hobart Director of Athletics Mike Hanna '68 recently announced the appointment of Tim Riskie to serve as the head coach of the tennis and squash teams. He replaces Carol Weymuller, who recently completed a 15-year stint with the Statesmen as the school's all-time wins leader in both sports.

“Tim Riskie inherits two programs grounded in sportsmanship, respect for the game and teamwork,” Hanna said. “That's Carol Weymuller's legacy. Along with our search committee, the members of both teams and hundreds of alumni, I'm excited about the potential of these two teams under Tim's leadership. His character, recruiting experience, teaching skills and passion for both sports are what made him our overall top choice from a deep and talented applicant pool. Our staff looks forward to Coach Riskie joining the Hobart Statesmen family. He's going to be a terrific fit.”

Riskie joins the Hobart coaching staff following two seasons as an assistant men's and women's tennis coach at Allegheny College, where he assisted the head coach in all aspects of the program. He helped the Gator women improve from 5-16 in his first season to 13-9 this season. Riskie came to the Allegheny staff following a year as a tennis instructor at Ron Jaworski's Riverwinds Golf and Tennis Club in West Deptford, N.J. He also completed a marketing internship with the U.S. Tennis Association Middle States in 2009.

Riskie's professional career began as a graduate assistant men's and women's tennis coach at Drexel University in 2006. With the Dragons, he planned on court practices and conditioning sessions as well as assisted in player development and recruiting. In 2008, Riskie earned a master's degree in public communication from Drexel.

A former Division III student-athlete himself, Riskie was a four-year member of the tennis team at Washington (Md.) College. A 2004 ITA Scholar-Athlete, he helped the Shoremen to four straight NCAA tournament appearances, three Centennial Conference championships, and to a No. 15 national ranking in the final poll of the 2005-06 season. Riskie and his doubles partner ended the 2004-05 season ranked 20th in the nation, and a year later moved up to No. 11.

A two-time all-conference selection for his doubles play, Riskie also garnered All-CC praise in singles in 2006. He played in every singles and doubles spot in the Washington lineup, excelling at No. 1 doubles where he recorded a 23-7 (.767) record during his junior and senior seasons. Riskie served as a team captain during his senior year and shared Washington's MVP award that season. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in business management and computer science.

A Professional Tennis Registry certified professional, Riskie is also an avid squash player.

“I'm thrilled and honored to come to Hobart College for my first head coaching job,” Riskie said. “The opportunity to lead the student-athletes of the squash and tennis teams and be a part of a campus community with a rich academic and athletic tradition is a dream come true. I'm excited by the challenges of continuing to build on the solid foundations of both programs, and look forward to great things in my future at Hobart College.”

A native of Woodbury, N.J., Riskie will officially take the reins of the tennis and squash programs on July 1.
