ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Hobart tennis team captured third place in the 2011 Flower City Invitational after defeating the University of Rochester 6-3 in a match played this morning.
The Statesmen (2-1) came out of doubles play with two points securing wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Junior

Bruce Grant paired up to earn an 8-6 victory at the top spot, and junior
Sam DeLuccia and first-year
Michael Fields posted an 8-5 win at No. 2.
Rochester battled in singles, picking up wins at Nos. 3 and 1 to take a 3-2 overall lead. However, Hobart rallied securing wins at Nos. 2, 4, 5, and 6 in that order for the 6-3 victory. DeLuccia earned his second win of the day at No. 2 topping the Yellowjackets' Joel Allen 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. James followed with another close win 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 at No. 4. Then Fields defeated Alex Magill 6-1, 6-3 and No. 5, and at No. 6, first-year Matthew Massey topped Parth Amin 7-5, 6-1.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 17 when they travel to take on St. John Fisher at 9 a.m.
