NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—The William Smith squash team posted a 2-1 record on the second day of the 2012 Smith Round Robin. The Herons defeated Northeastern and Vassar and dropped a match to Wellesley this afternoon.
William Smith (5-7) started the day with an 8-1 victory over Northeastern. The Herons secured wins at Nos. 2-9. First-year
Andrea Tran led the William Smith effort with a 3-0 win at No. 2. Junior
Lucia Rowe posted a 3-1 victory at No. 3. Junior
Courtney Leous, sophomore
Ginny McDermott, junior
Anne Habecker, sophomore
Tyler Mitchell, and senior
Sarah Cutts cruised to 3-0 wins at Nos. 4-8, respectively. Sophomore
Nellie Lindecke won by default at No. 9.
The Herons second win of the day came over Vassar 6-3. Tran recorded her second 3-0 win of the day at No. 2. McDermott, Habecker, Riordan and Cutts swept their Brewers opponents 3-0 at Nos. 5,6,7, and 9, respectively. Leous secured a 3-1 triumph at the No. 4 spot, and Mitchell topped her Vassar opponent 3-1 at No. 8.
William Smith dropped its final match this afternoon 6-3 to Wellesley. Riordan came out on top of a close match 3-2 at No. 7. Mitchell and Cutts notched 3-0 sweeps at Nos. 8 and 9, respectively. Mitchell, and Cutts both posted perfect 3-0 records today.
The Herons will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 5 when they host Franklin & Marshall at 10:30 a.m.
