Heron squash edged 5-4 by St. Lawrence at Bard Round Robin

The William Smith squash team was edged 5-4 by St. Lawrence today in the first match of the 2012 Bard Round Robin played in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., this afternoon. The Herons, who are ranked No. 25 in the preseason College Squash Association rankings, are now 1-1 overall.

It was No. 28 St. Lawrence's season opener. Sophomore Andrea Tran won a hard fought match at No. 2 13-11, 14-12, 3-11, 9-11, 11-9. Senior Courtney Leous also battled for a five-game win at No. 4. She rallied to defeat her Saint opponent 9-11, 10-12, 11-7, 11-6, 11-8.

At No. 8, sophomore Nellie Lindecke posted an 11-9, 11-6, 8-11, 11-8 triumph. First-year Erin Casey dropped her first game 11-7, but came back to win the next three 11-6, 13-11, 11-3 for the victory at the No. 9 spot.

The Herons will take on Rochester tomorrow, Nov. 18 at 11:30 a.m. and then play No. 27 Vassar at 1 p.m., in the second day of the Bard Round Robin.
