Heron squash picks up 2 wins to finish Bard Round Robin

The William Smith squash team picked up two wins on Day 2 of the 2012 Bard Round Robin in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., today. The Herons swept Rochester 9-0 and earned a 6-3 victory over Vassar.

The Herons are ranked No. 25 in the preseason College Squash Association rankings and improve to 3-1 this season.

Against the Yellowjackets, first-year Rachel Newman cruised to an 11-1, 11-3, 11-1 win at the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Andrea Tran logged an 11-4, 11-5, 11-3 triumph at No. 2 and senior Olivia Beckwith came away with an 11-3, 11-5, 11-4 victory at No. 3. At No. 4, senior Courtney Leous posted an 11-6, 11-3, 9-11, 11-7 win.

At No. 5, senior Anne Habecker breezed to an 11-1, 11-2, 11-0 win over her Rochester opponent. First-year Justine Shank topped her competition 11-5, 11-4, 11-2 at No. 6, and sophomore Molly Doran picked up a 11-2, 11-0, 11-6 victory at No. 7. Junior Nellie Lindecke earned an 11-7, 11-0, 11-2 win at No. 8, and first-year Erin Casey rounded out the sweep with an 11-3, 11-4, 11-9 triumph at No. 9.

Against the No. 27 Brewers, Newman tallied her second win of the day at the top spot (11-5, 11-6, 11-7). Tran also earned her second win, 11-3, 11-7, 11-4. At No. 2, Leous defeated Jill Levine 11-7, 11-6, 11-3 at No. 4, and Shank edged Vassar's Karina Primelles 12-110, 11-7, 14-12 at No. 6. Doran posted an 11-6, 11-4, 11-9 win and at No. 7, and Casey topped Devina Vaid 11-2, 11-2, 11-5 at No. 9.

The Herons will be back in action Dec. 1-2 when they compete in the 2012 Wesleyan Round Robin.
